Lake Murray was Oklahoma's first state park. With the completion of the dam in 1937, an exciting new chapter began as the state developed new, modern facilities for public recreation. In 1947, 2,700 acres of land was acquired and added on to the park. The first state park-lodge system was finished in 1949 at Lake Murray, giving visitors even more opportunities to stay. These facilities paved the way for the future of our state parks.
